The Big Dance!

The VDL Playoffs have been filled with storylines after storylines. We’ve watched breathtaking plays and jaw-dropping moments. However, the biggest story yet to unfold is finally here: The Tournament of Champions! The top three teams from all 4 league nights, plus CDL will be duking it out for eternal bragging rights on Sunday, December 20th at David Thompson. How do teams really stack up against other night’s teams? Who will emerge as the unsung hero? Which team will be crowned Rulers of the known dodgeball universe? All will be revealed in two weeks! You won’t want to miss out on this event that showcases the best of the best, so come out and cheer for your favorite teams!

Details:

- Date: Sunday, December 20th
- Time: 1:00 – 4:30PM; gyms will be opened at 12:30PM for warm-up.
- Format: Round Robin for warm-up and fun at the beginning;
then 16 team Double Knock Out Tournament
- Location: David Thompson Secondary

Mondays: Ballistics; Dodgeball I Choose You; Purple Monkey Dishwashers
Tuesdays: 8 Bit; The Gun Show; Dodgystyle; Marvel-US; Cougar Cubs
Wednesday: All Day I Dream about Dodgeball; In Dodge We Trust; Recess Bullies
Thursday: DDR

*Replacement teams to fill out the tournament will be decided by the organizers based on a variety of factors: 1) previous championships; 2) playoff and league performance and 3) overlap of existing players in TOC

TOC Policies have been updated to address the issues of seeding, multiple team players, and substitutions:

Seeding:
* Champions get preferential seeding with the rest of the teams being mixed

Substitution Policy:
* Multiple team players are allowed to play for any team they played with during the regular season
* If a player’s second, third, or fourth team face off directly, that player can decide to sit out or choose a team
* Teams must have a minimum of 4 original players on the court at all times
* Maximum of 2 subs per team
* If subs are needed, permission must be granted in advance
* Subs can’t already be playing on a TOC team
* Subs can’t be shared with other teams at TOC unless prior permission is granted
* Teams with overlapping players must be able to meet the minimum original 4 players on at all times threshold if their teams are scheduled to play each other or play simultaneously. If one of the teams can’t meet this threshold at all times, then it should decline the invitation instead of defaulting.

Considerable feedback and discussion went into these policies to allow for a balanced approach between fairness, integrity of teams, minimizing odd outcomes, and operational logistics. We believe this is a good framework for a difficult challenge. The deadline for team RSVPs is Wednesday, December 9th.
