S12 Wednesday Division

Greetings VDL,

As you may or may not know Wednesday Division took place on this glorious Sunday of December 4th, 2011. All teams came out with one common goal in mind….to win a VDL championship! For many, this would be their 234874571TH time down this road of glory only to have a championship snatched up from under their nose. Teams were amped and full of mojo just waiting to be unleashed on the courts! Before the fierce competition began some great awards were presented to most deserving teams to start off this day on a high note.

S12 Wednesday Division Spirit Champions - Fat Cat Pussy Balls - an average score of 9.93/10 throughout the season!

Winning teams received gift certificates to White Spot! $50 gift certificates for Best Dressed and Best Cheer, and $100 for the Spirit Champions!

After a beautiful O Canada was sung by VDL’s own Mike Van Nen the games began. For some, the road to glory was a bumpy one with a dislocated shoulder here, 11 jammed fingers and one rolled ankle later the best of the best teams showed Wednesday Nights what great things could happen when good fun and good people come together for the great game of dodgeball.

Before teams were pitted against one another, the crowd shared in awarding the best dressed and best cheer awards for:

And with their little tails bobbing behind their… behinds, Animal Crackers stole the crowd’s vote with the Best Dressed award!

And ironically, the Pushy Penguins were pushed off by the roar of the crowd for the Smurfs great cheering!
And of course the infamous Hootie the Spirit Owl went to none other than Animal Crackers!

As the always entertaining Opening Ceremony came to a close, the angelic vocal styling of none other than Rec-less and Exec-less’s Jay Vu singing the Canadian national anthem calmed the players in the gym.

Shortly afterwards the most intense Dodgeball seen all season long kicked off! Teams won, teams lost and tears wereshed, but in the end the finals tested the best of players and demanded above and beyond efforts of the
battling teams to claim the championship titles of their respective tiers. For those of you that were unable to attend the show, shame on you; make it up by registering to the VDL’s Season 13 immediately! And for those who were fortunate enough to be in the presence of greatness and to live vicariously though the glorious victories, know who to aim to beat next season! And with that said, I bid you adieu and to wrap up Season 12 in shiny paper and top it with a festive bow because that’s a wrap!

The Big Dance!

The VDL Playoffs have been filled with storylines after storylines. We’ve watched breathtaking plays and jaw-dropping moments. However, the biggest story yet to unfold is finally here: The Tournament of Champions! The top three teams from all 4 league nights, plus CDL will be duking it out for eternal bragging rights on Sunday, December 20th at David Thompson. How do teams really stack up against other night’s teams? Who will emerge as the unsung hero? Which team will be crowned Rulers of the known dodgeball universe? All will be revealed in two weeks! You won’t want to miss out on this event that showcases the best of the best, so come out and cheer for your favorite teams!

Details:

- Date: Sunday, December 20th
- Time: 1:00 – 4:30PM; gyms will be opened at 12:30PM for warm-up.
- Format: Round Robin for warm-up and fun at the beginning;
then 16 team Double Knock Out Tournament
- Location: David Thompson Secondary

*Replacement teams to fill out the tournament will be decided by the organizers based on a variety of factors: 1) previous championships; 2) playoff and league performance and 3) overlap of existing players in TOC

TOC Policies have been updated to address the issues of seeding, multiple team players, and substitutions:

Seeding:
* Champions get preferential seeding with the rest of the teams being mixed

Substitution Policy:
* Multiple team players are allowed to play for any team they played with during the regular season
* If a player’s second, third, or fourth team face off directly, that player can decide to sit out or choose a team
* Teams must have a minimum of 4 original players on the court at all times
* Maximum of 2 subs per team
* If subs are needed, permission must be granted in advance
* Subs can’t already be playing on a TOC team
* Subs can’t be shared with other teams at TOC unless prior permission is granted
* Teams with overlapping players must be able to meet the minimum original 4 players on at all times threshold if their teams are scheduled to play each other or play simultaneously. If one of the teams can’t meet this threshold at all times, then it should decline the invitation instead of defaulting.

Considerable feedback and discussion went into these policies to allow for a balanced approach between fairness, integrity of teams, minimizing odd outcomes, and operational logistics. We believe this is a good framework for a difficult challenge. If you have feedback about these policies, please contact us at league (at) vdldodgeball.ca so we can adjust them as needed or make exceptions. The deadline for team RSVPs is Wednesday, December 9th.

S8 ToC Participants

What it is: The Tournament of Champions is a tournament featuring each division’s top four teams from the playoffs, including the top four team from the Coquitlam Dodgeball League.  The teams that qualified would have received an email from VDL indicating that they have qualified for the tournament.  If a team is unable to attend, the next highest seeded team will take their place.

When: May 30, 2009
Time: 11am – 4pm
Where: David Thompson Secondary School

How much: The team entry fee is $60.00 per team.  A portion of the proceeds will go towards the Easter Seals Run.

Remember, just because your team may not have qualified for the tournament does not mean you have to stay home and wait to read about it on the website.  Come out and support your own division and watch some very entertaining dodgeball action.
