Vancouver’s first, largest and only non-profit player driven dodgeball league is proud to announce Season 13 details. For the Spring season, you can expect a community of over 170 teams and 1,200+ players, high quality play at all skill levels, epic playoff matches and of course loads of fun! Play dodgeball, stay active, meet new friends, be part of a great community, and get ready for good times!

INFORMATION

League Details:
- Season 13 begins in January and ends in May
- League fees include at least 12 weeks of play, including: 10 weeks of regular season; 1 exhibition week for vets and rookies, and 1 playoff weekend
- Each session lasts 90 minutes
- Tiered play, based on skill level
- Each team plays 3-4 different teams and 15-16 games per night, depending on division
- Plus legendary VDL Pub Night and Skill Clinics to get better!
- Prizes for Best Dressed team, Most Spirited team, Best Cheer and all Tier Champions
- Co-ed teams of 6-12 players; 2 females must be playing on the court at all times
- All players must be 19 years and over (please see League Policies)

Cost: $500 early bird, plus taxes; $550 regular, plus taxes

December 13th – January 6th: Open registration to the Public (Early Bird)
January 6th:  Payment deadline for returning teams who have put down a deposit**
January 7th – January 15th: Open registration (Regular)
January 15th : Registration deadline

- Monday Nights; January 30 – May 7; 7:00-8:30PM or 8:30-10:00PM
- Tuesday Nights; January 31 – April 24; 7:00-8:30PM or 8:30-10:00PM
- Wednesday Nights; February 1 – April 25; 8:00PM – 10:00PM
- Thursday Nights; February 2 – May 10; 7:00-8:30PM or 8:30-10:00PM

*Please note, teams on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday Nights can expect to play in both the 7:00pm slot and the 8:30pm slot throughout the season. A team’s game time slot and gym location will vary on any given week depending on their current tier and gym availability. We will make it as fair as possible, but cannot accommodate requests for one specific time slot and location throughout the season.

This is our open session for any teams wanting to take advantage of our early bird discount special for registration fees of just $450/team (plus taxes). S9 is just around the corner and we’re getting pumped for our biggest and best season yet! Here are some details to keep you in the loop:

1) S9′s League Schedule: Due to a later start date because of the Olympics, as well as upcoming stat holidays and gym availabilities, we’ve adjusted our S9 schedule to continue giving our community the very best dodgeball experience. As a result, more dodgeball will be had for most players!  Here are the changes:

• Exhibition week will start from Monday, March 1st to Thursday, March 4th
• All VSB gyms are closed the following week for Spring Break (March 8th to March 11th)
• Week 1 for everyone begins on the week of  Monday, March 15th
• Monday Division will have a 10 week schedule (due to statutory holidays); Tuesday and Wednesday Divisions will have a 11 week schedule; and Thursday Division will have a 12 week schedule
• Tiering for all divisions will occur after Week 3 and Week 8; with 6 teams generally going up and down each shuffle
• Season 9′s Playoffs dates are booked
• Due to the tremendous amount of player overlap in VDL’s Tier A, amongst other reasons, the Tournament of Champions is on hiatus for the foreseeable future

2) Team Name, Tier and Captain Confirmation: We need all Captains to review these pages listed here to confirm your team name, starting tier and team captain. Please send any changes to Dave Buxton, League Scheduler, at <dbuxton (at) vdldodgeball.ca>. If there are no changes, then no action is necessary. This information is key as we’ll use it to build the schedules and nightly scoresheets. We will not accept any further changes after Friday, March 5th. Please note that we need to balance the tiers so some more shuffling will occur and these starting tiers are up to VDL’s discretion.

3) Waivers: Captains and players, please ensure you and your teammates consent before participating in any VDL activity. See the Waivers page for more information, or go directly to the online waivers.

4) Dodgeball 101, a general orientation for all new players to learn about the rules of the game and play in a supportive environment, is now available. There are 5 sessions in total; capacity for 50 people per event. All new players must attend at least 1 session before the start of the season. Teammates and Captains can attend with their new players too! Bring PE strip and water, and get ready to have some fun! To manage our numbers, registration is done individually (per player per event), not on behalf of your team. So it’s unofficially official (or is it officially unofficial?), Dodgeball is the next best sport among true athletes. We came across some articles and videos, and couldn’t help ourselves but to spread the love.

The University of Alberta has set a new Guinness Book of World Record for most participants in a dodgeball game. Imagine 600 vs. 600 players. Crazy much? If you don’t believe it, catch it here.

It is truly outstanding and just amazing how much the sport of dodgeball has evolved and we want to give props to TSN and UofA for promoting our sport in Canada and to the world.

Just some friendly reminders regarding registration for Season 9 dodgeball:

January 15, 2010

This is the FINAL day for any early-bird registration. That means, you have a few days left to take advantage of our registration fee of just $450/team. For teams that have already registered in our early-bird offer, we want to remind you that your team fees will be due on Sunday, January 31, 2010. If you fail to miss this payment, your account will be automatically adjusted to our regular registration fee of $500 (minus the $50 deposit).

January 16 – February 15, 2010

Our regular registration kicks in during this period of time. Registration team fees will be $500/team. We still have a few spots left for each division night. So whether you’re looking to join us for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or even Thursday night, we have room for you!  If you’re looking to join as a single player, you can check out our Facebook discussion page where most of our player recruitment takes place.

Also, don’t forget: February 15, 2010 will be the last and final day for any teams to register and all payments must be cleared.

We hope you’ve enjoyed your time with VDL in Season 7!  Now before you go off to enjoy the beautiful summer weather we want to pass on some essential information regarding Season 8 registration. As always, to show our appreciation to our current VDL players, registration priority goes to returning teams.  Exact start dates are still be to determined but it will be around mid/late September.  Here is the order of registration priority for Season 8:

1) Returning teams to the same night
Registration Period: Now until – May 31st, 2009

2) Returning team who wish to split into 2 teams on the same night
Registration Period: June 1st – June 14th

3) Returning team moving to another night
Registration Period: June 1st – June 14th

4) New Teams, opened to public!
Registration Period: June 15th – August 31st

5) Late registration, if available
Registration Period: Sept 1st – Sept 12th

***The deadline indicates that after which your priority will be lost, however you can still register depending on availability.  Please ensure to follow the order of registration priority; not adhering to the order will result in the refund of your deposit and the loss of your spot.
