COVID-19 Update

UPDATED: September 14, 2020

To all our players,

Much of the last few months have been spent monitoring ongoing Covid-19 developments and assessing whether running any form of dodgeball would be in line with the safety standards set by the Public Health Authority.
Unfortunately, there are still many unanswered questions, which are essential in moving forward with creating a safe, adapted version of our sport.

As there is still much uncertainty, and with players’ health and safety in mind, VDL has decided to pause and officially announce that there will be no league organized play for the remainder of 2020.

We know the spirit of our amazing VDL community extends past the physical sport of dodgeball. We take pride knowing many of our players are on the frontlines in various capacities, serving their neighbourhoods and communities. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do!
As a league, we will work to find ways to connect with our players, our community and each other during these difficult and uncertain times.

We recognize that so much has changed and that the “new normal” is going to look very different. We encourage our community to continue to keep their social interactions to a minimum and within their own bubble, practise good hygiene, and be kind to others.

To all our VDL players,

The Vancouver Dodgeball League continues to closely monitor the public health developments regarding COVID-19. The safety of our players and volunteers remains of the utmost importance.

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) has assessed the public health risk associated with COVID-19 as low for Canada. With that in mind, all VDL games will continue as scheduled until further notice. We intend to evaluate the situation over Spring Break and devise an appropriate plan of action, if needed.

VDL is advising players to maintain good hygiene practices, including regular and thorough washing of hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or cleansing with alcohol-based hand sanitizers.

Other precautions include:

  • Not touching your face/eyes/mouth with unwashed hands
  • Covering your mouth and nose with a disposable tissue or the crease of your elbow, when sneezing or coughing, and then washing your hands
  • Not sharing water bottles

In an effort to respect those who would like to minimize physical contact, VDL encourages players to display sportsmanship after games with their choice of action, which can include, but not limited to, fist bumps, elbow bumps, head nods, and/or verbal acknowledgments of sportsmanship.

Following B.C health official’s recommendation of canceling large gatherings, we will be canceling all upcoming VDL hosted events for the safety of our players:

  • Trivia Night – March 19th
  • King and Queens Tournament – March 22nd (Refunds will be made to registered teams. Please allow up to 2 weeks for a refund.)
  • S29 Pub Night – April 18th

In addition, all players who have traveled abroad must self-quarantine for 14 days upon their return to the province. This includes travel to the United States as well. VDL will continue to monitor the situation and will contact you with any relevant updates.

Any player who is quarantined or in self-isolation, will not have those weeks count against their playoff eligibility (i.e. those weeks will count as if the player was present in the gym). VDL continues to encourage players to stay home if they are not feeling well or are showing symptoms of illness. This is to not only protect other players but their friends and families, as well.

As stated above, VDL will continue to monitor the situation and will contact you with any updates relevant to VDL programs and events as they occur.
