COVID-19 SAFETY PLAN

VDL MODIFIED GAME PLAY 

In alignment with ViaSport BC, BCDC, and the Province of British Columbia Health Authority, VDL has made the following game adjustments:

  • A maximum of 10 players per group including spectators
    • No additional substitute players will be allowed at the venue
  • There will be no contact between any opponents on the court
    • No hand shaking, no high-fiving, no fist bumps, etc.
  • All participants are reminded to be mindful of social distancing
  • Participants must stay on their side of the court
  • When a participant is out they: 
    • may line up anywhere along the side boundaries on their own side of the court, in any order, but must enter the game in the same order they were hit out
    • Participant does not need to be within arms reach of ref to re-enter the game after a catch
    • are expected to help shag balls for their team

VDL MODIFIED LEAGUE POLICIES AND GUIDELINES 

In alignment with ViaSport BC, BCDC, and the Province of British Columbia Health Authority, VDL has made the following policy adjustments:

  1. Teams are co-ed, made up of a minimum of 6 players and maximum of 12 players.
  2. All players must sign a waiver, and be 19 years and over, in order to play; no exceptions. Waiver information will be used for PHO mandated contact tracing.
  3. Captains must submit a roster at the beginning of the season. All players submitted on the roster must be signed before the start of the season. Captains must submit roster updates to a league director BEFORE the day of the session
  4. Vaccine Status By order of the Provincial Health Officer (PHO), proof of full vaccination is required to access indoor adult group and team sports for people 22 years old or older
  5. Teams may NOT borrow any additional players that are playing on different courts/teams in the same venue. Teams with less than 6 players must play as such. *See rules for substitutes below.*
  6. Any substitutes that are inside or outside of the league must sign a waiver prior to playing and have completed all requirements of being added to the group roster, including accepting all Waivers, Addendums and Terms and Conditions of play, may be in attendance at the court.
  7. Captains’ handshake will no longer take place during the Captain’s meeting
  8. VDL expects all players to be mature, respectful and sportsmanlike to other participants and to league organizers. In order to protect the community, we reserve the right to refuse service.
  9. Default (No Show): Teams who do not show up without providing any notice, will be charged a default fine of $25. Teams who default will not be scheduled to play until the fee has been paid by their next scheduled date. Teams will not be charged if the League Director is notified at least 24 hours in advance.

SCHEDULING/TIMELINE

  1. To minimize group interaction, VDL sessions will be staggered to allow sufficient time for entry/exit of participants. Participants must clear the gym at the appropriate time as per VSB regulations and may not enter the gym facilities unless instructed to do so by a VDL exec.

VACCINATION STATUS

By order of the Provincial Health Officer (PHO), proof of full vaccination is required to access indoor adult group and team sports for people 22 years old or older.

 The requirement is in place until January 31, 2022 and could be extended.

  • Note: You are considered fully vaccinated with 2 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. Your booster dose does not affect your proof of vaccination.

It has been made very clear by the relevant authorities and our venue partners that there will be ZERO exceptions to this requirement.
Any team found participating with any players who cannot show a government approved ‘vaccination passport’ in line with the new Provincial Health Order will face severe Supplemental Discipline including immediate removal from the our league (without refund) and possible year-long expulsion.

LIMIT PARTICIPATION:

  • Only players that are registered VDL members and have completed all requirements of being added to the group roster, including accepting all Waivers, Addendums and Terms and Conditions of play, may be in attendance at the court.
  • A maximum of 10 players per group will be allowed, including spectators, per nightly session.
  • A maximum of 2 groups (totaling 20 participants) and 4 VDL execs will be allowed to be in the court area.
  • A maximum of 8 groups (totalling 80 participants) and 4 VDL execs will be allowed in the gym facility per session

SANITIZATION/DISINFECTING PROCEDURES:

  • 1 hand sanitizer per court
  • 1 pack of disinfectant wipes per court 
  • 1 roll of paper towel per 2 courts
  • VDL execs to provide disinfected balls before each session
  • VDL execs to quarantine all equipment for one week after game play

PARTICIPANT GUIDELINES – ADULT RECREATIONAL INDOOR DODGEBALL

PERSONAL PROTECTION/HYGIENE:

  • The use of a mask is mandatory for all idle participants (not reffing, not playing) while in the gym facility. As per PHO, masks must be worn in all common spaces, including bathrooms, lobbies, and hallways.
  • Participants must avoid touching their eyes, nose or mouth
  • Participants must cover mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing
  • Be mindful of current physical distancing standards from others
  • Be mindful of common surfaces and limit touch points
  • Participants must (re)apply hand sanitizer before entering/reentering the gym and before the start of any dodgeball game
    • Hand sanitizer will be available, however participants are encouraged to bring their own

EQUIPMENT:

  • Four sets of seven balls (one for each court per session) for a total of twenty-eight balls will be provided by VDL
  • Dodgeballs will be replaced with disinfected balls following each session
  • Do NOT bring your own dodgeball to the facility
  • Bring your own water bottle – Do not share any drinks or food

ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE AT THE VENUE:

  • Participants may arrive at the facility no more than 10 minutes before scheduled play time
  • Absolutely no congregating at the facility or parking area before or after your game
  • Do not enter the court area until ALL other groups have left the court. A VDL exec will usher groups into the facility after COVID-19 screening 
  • Follow the Entry & Exit plans as designated by VDL and/or the Venue
  • Once you enter the court area go directly to your team’s designated area
  • At the end of your play, immediately leave the court following the appropriate exit plan
  • Collect all garbage/recycling and place it in the appropriate bins after your play

MINDFUL PARTICIPATION:

  • Review guidelines in advance of arrival
  • Listen to, and follow, the direction of VDL execs at all times
  • Review and adhere to directions posted via on-site signage
  • Pre-sanitize hands before play
  • Stay within your designated areas on the courts
  • Please respect venue, participants, and any general public located at venue

 

VDL EXECUTIVE GUIDELINES – ADULT RECREATIONAL DODGEBALL

EQUIPMENT

Each VDL exec will be provided with:

  • Mask (welcome to use their own as long as it covers their mouth and nose)
  • VDL Exec Shirt (must be worn)
  • Access to gloves
  • Hand sanitizer

TRAINING:

Each VDL exec will be trained on how to facilitate sport at specific venue

  • Revised captain’s meetings procedures
  • How to deal with discipline at the venue
  • How to deal with first aid
  • When and how to disinfect equipment

COMMUNICATION:

VDL execs are empowered to: 

  • Request any participant to immediately leave the venue should they display any symptoms of COVID-19 or if behavior is not in keeping with safe and healthy play
  • Re-ask the participant the ‘3 Health Check Questions’
  • VDL execs may ask entire group to leave if behavior from one or more group members is not in keeping with safe and healthy play

FIRST AID PLAN:

In the event that first aid has to be administered during an activity, all persons attending to the injured individual must first put on a mask and gloves.
