Let your hair down and get your dodge on at VDL’s Dodgebalding for Dollars tournament! On Sept. 21st, VDL is partnering with the Canadian Cancer Society in the fight against cancer, so come support us by playing dodgeball, donating your hair, fundraising, or shaving an exec’s head!

What: Dodgebalding for Dollars

Who: Anyone 19 years or older are welcome, regardless if they play in the VDL or not.

When: September 21st, 2013, 1pm – 5:30pm

Where: Britannia Community Centre, Gym D (1661 Napier St, Vancouver, BC V5L 4X4) (map)

Cost: $80/team. 100% of the proceeds go to the Canadian Cancer Society.

There will also be raffle draws and sweet prizes to be won, and the chance to bid on shaving a VDL exec’s head yourself, so make sure to bring cash and prepare for a day of fun towards a worthy cause!

Get the game on!

  • Tournament format: double elimination, best of 5 sets. We will do our best to arrange tiered play based on skill levels.
  • Teams and players: Teams can consist of 6-12 players. Two females must be playing on the court at all times. All players must be 19+ years old and must sign a waiver to be eligible to play. Captains will receive a link to the waiver a week prior to the tournament. Single players looking to play on a team can email kbennett@vdldodgeball.ca with “Single Registration” in the subject line.
  • Rules and reffing: All rules follow the VDL format, and games are peer-refereed with at least one VDL executive on each court.
  • Schedule: Teams should arrive by 1pm for check in and warm up. Game play starts promptly at 1:30 and goes until 5:30pm.
  • Capacity: Only a maximum of 24 teams are accepted, so register your team today!

Hair-Apparent:

From 1-2pm we will be snip, clip, and buzzing away for the cause of cancer! If you want to help raise money and are in need of a haircut, why not offer your head of hair to be shaved by the highest bidder? Or bring some cash and bid in to shave the head of your favourite (or hairiest) exec and/or player. Grab a razor and help cut down cancer!

If you have long, luscious locks but don’t want to shave your head, we would be greatly appreciative of your donation for use in wigs for cancer patients too. A few guidelines:

  • Hair should a minimum of 8 inches in length
  • Hair should be washed
  • Hair should not be currently coloured or permed
  • Grey hair or any other natural colour hair are accepted
  • Do not braid hair
