League Policy Updates

As Vancouverites – and Canadians in general – we are proud of our diversity and support the inclusivity of LGBTQ2+ players in our community.

Recognizing that players have the right and freedom to their individual sexual orientation and gender identity, VDL hereby clarifies our policy of “two female players on the court”:

VDL players who identify themselves as “female” may register and play as such, regardless of physical sex characteristics or where they may be in in any transition between genders. We believe that everyone is free to identify, label, and define themselves as the gender identity that makes the most sense to them.

Legally in BC, individuals are the gender they state they are, and VDL will not ask proof of gender identification such as legal name changes, surgery records, etc.. As we are a recreational league, we trust that players would not abuse this system in order to gain a competitive advantage.
